I hope this message finds you well! I am excited to announce the launch of our first edition of the Family Newsletter for this school year.
This newsletter is designed to keep you informed about important events, news, and updates from around our school community.
Inside, you will find information about upcoming events, student achievements, and opportunities for family engagement.

We believe that strong partnerships between home and school are key to our students' success, and this newsletter will serve as a valuable resource to stay connected.

You can expect to receive the newsletter monthly, and thank you for your continued support. Together, we can make this a fantastic year for our students!

Switching gears, Parent-Teacher Conferences are fast approaching. I want to take a moment to emphasize their significance for our students and the entire school community. These conferences provide a valuable opportunity for you parents to engage with us, gain insights into your children's progress, and collaborate on strategies for success.

Strong communication between home and school is vital. These meetings allow us to celebrate student achievements, address concerns, and build partnerships that support our learners. I encourage you to prepare thoroughly, be open to discussions, and share your observations with your child’s teacher.

Let’s work together to make these conferences meaningful and productive. Your dedication, and support to our students is truly appreciated.
Please don’t forget to sign up for a time that works for you. Your involvement is crucial, and we look forward to seeing you!

Warm regards,

Mr. Lopez

This Month's Top Stories
I am thrilled to share some exciting news about a new project that will enhance our school environment and celebrate our community’s creativity.

In collaboration with Youth in Arts, we are creating a vibrant mural at our school! This project will not only beautify our space but also provide our students with a unique opportunity to engage with professional artists, learn about the creative process, and express their voices through art.

The mural will be designed to reflect the spirit and values of our school community, and has received input from our own students. We believe that art has the power to inspire and bring us together, and we can’t wait to see this vision come to life!

Stay tuned for updates on the mural’s progress. October 26th has been slotted as the day to begin the painting of the mural.

LifeSkill for October:  Growth Mindset

A growth mindset is a teaching strategy that encourages students to believe that their abilities can be developed through effort and perseverance. It's based on the idea that intelligence and skills can expand and grow over time.  Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck pioneered the concept of a growth mindset in her 2006 book Mindset: The New Psychology of Success.

We encourage our students to embrace the Power of Yet…    Instead of having a FiXED mindset:  “I can’t do this!”, we encourage a FLEXIBLE mindset, a GROWTH mindset:  “I can’t do this… YET!”   This leaves room for growth and gives one the message that they should not give up, but keep trying.  Not getting frustrated with oneself, but instead trying their best to understand that they are still learning and, with persistence, they will be able to do it… just give it some time.

How can you support a growth mindset?  Encourage your child to not give up, to keep trying, and to remember that we are ALL learners.  Perhaps tell your child a story about when you were struggling with something and how you learned it over time and did not give up!

We will recognize a student in each class who has been nominated by their teacher for showing a Growth Mindset during our LifeSkills Assembly on Friday, October 25th; please join us!

Rainbow Step Assembly
We will have our Rainbow Step Assembly this Friday, October 11th at 8:00 a.m.  We hope you can stay to join us as it promotes a feeling of community!  This is a time when the entire school comes together to do some stretches, hear some announcements, and show our school pride as we shout out our school cheer!
We show this Lion Pride once a month, usually on the second Friday of the month.

Bullying Prevention Month
October is Bullying Prevention Month. Last month, during United Against Hate Week, I had the opportunity to go into almost all of the classrooms and I provided students with a common language:  STOP/WALK/TALK, whic
